Pod-Trak delivered a series of complex civil engineering packages for Align JV on the HS2 North Portal site in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. The £18m programme included large-scale earthworks, construction of reinforced concrete capping beams and cradle slabs, installation of 11,000m² of reinforced track slab, deep drainage, and a new on-site batching plant. Working within a live multi-contractor environment, Pod-Trak provided integrated design, engineering and delivery support to ensure each element was completed safely, efficiently, and to programme.
The works were delivered under tight programme constraints, requiring precise coordination across multiple disciplines and contractors. Delays to the track slab start date prompted an accelerated delivery plan, introducing revised pour sequences, additional resources, and dual-shift working. Pod-Trak engineered bespoke shoring for deep drainage, maintaining headwall stability while safeguarding adjacent operations. Close collaboration with Align JV, proactive logistics planning, and staged handbacks ensured critical HS2 milestones were achieved on time.
Pod-Trak deployed its full in-house plant capability, reducing reliance on external resources and optimising sequencing between civils, drainage, and batching operations. Innovative “slide rail” shoring technology was used for deep drainage, improving safety and productivity by eliminating vibration and reducing lifting operations. The on-site batching plant was designed and constructed with sustainable methods, including prefabricated reinforced walls, legato block construction, and advanced power-floated finishes. These innovations enhanced quality, reduced carbon impact, and improved delivery efficiency across the entire programme.
