To assist with the overall larger scheme Pod-Trak were contracted to install a section of cess drainage close to Birmingham International Station including the temporary support of cables and a new route for the cables following completion of the drainage works.
With very limited access to the work area all scope had to be delivered over a series of Saturday night possessions with 5-6 hours working time on each shift. The works were delivered using a Mecalac RRV for digging accompanied by two RRVs with trailers to take spoil back to the RRAP and transport of pea gravel and ballast to the work area.
The handling and management of all materials and spoil was carried on during normal working hours midweek with material being stockpiled ready for use and spoil disposed off-site. With the site compound and access being within the Birmingham NEC grounds, all vehicle movements and people had to be booked and agreed in advance otherwise access was denied.
Output per shift averaged at 30m and 18m with a catchpit. Careful planning in advance of every shift ensured the correct time was allocated to on track all plant, load up with materials and travel to the worksite. All works were delivered without any late handback including all site clearance and completion of track handback documentation.
Following installation works the system was connected to the existing drainage and successfully tested. Concrete troughing was installed above the new drainage and cables which had previously been protected in split ducting on the embankment were laid in the new route.
