CityFibre Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft FTTH

Project Overview

Pod-Trak successfully delivered a £15m Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network build for CityFibre, connecting approximately 30,000 homes across Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. The project combined both underground and overhead installation methods serviced via the local Fibre Exchange. Works included extensive excavation across public highways, footways, and private land, as well as the installation of new telecommunication poles. Delivered within a busy urban environment, the project supported faster, more resilient broadband infrastructure for communities in the East of England.

Key Challenges & Solution

Delivering large-scale fibre infrastructure in mixed urban and rural areas required detailed planning to minimise disruption. Pod-Trak coordinated closely with local authorities, Highways England, and parish councils to plan closures, manage access, and maintain traffic flow. Complex engineering challenges included river, rail, and major road crossings, all completed under strict safety controls. Engagement with residents and businesses ensured clear communication throughout, while progressive risk management and temporary works planning maintained safety and quality.

Innovation in Action

Pod-Trak applied a highly structured traffic management and stakeholder engagement strategy, using detailed short-term planning to mitigate disruption and maintain public access. When works temporarily affected a local bus stop used by a sight-impaired resident, our team personally coordinated daily assistance to ensure uninterrupted access – demonstrating a proactive, community-focused approach. The project was completed safely, on time, and within budget, leading to a further major award from the client
