Beaulieu Park Station – Multi-Discipline Delivery (OLE, Track, Civils)

Project Overview

Beaulieu Park is the first new station on the GEML in over a century. Pod-Trak delivered a fully integrated programme across OLE, Permanent Way, and Drainage over two years, from early constructability support through to staged commissioning.
Key route milestones were achieved to programme: Down Main & Loop into service – Christmas 2023 (209-hour possession) and Up Main connection – Easter 2024, enabling the station works to progress on a live railway with minimal disruption.

High Level Scope:

  • OLE: 112 piles; portals, TTCs, STCs, SSA structures; cantilevers and SPS; GEFF renewals replacing legacy Mk1; interface overlaps (insulated/uninsulated); full wiring and registration (earth/return conductor, catenary, contact) and Morris Line switching to 1250 kA.
  • Permanent Way: Formation build-up; bottom/top ballast; 5 S&C layouts; track installation using civils plant, on track plant and strategic plant (PEM/LEM); full welding, stressing and tamping to NR standards.
  • Civils & Drainage: ~1,500 m drainage, catchpits, chambers, temporary works; redundant OLE foundation breakout; detailed as-builts and CCTV.
  • Traffic & Access: Section-8 compliant traffic management at the London end (school access maintained); timed delivery schedules agreed with all stakeholders.

Key Challenges & Solution

Live, constrained corridor: Early constructability reviews unlocked safe access, staging and clash resolution; greenfield build used wherever possible to de-risk.

Possession scarcity: Re-sequenced OLE stages (0.0–0.5) to parallel critical works and meet Christmas 2023/Easter 2024 dates.

Logistics & materials: Dedicated materials coordinators per shift, pre-staged compounds/laydowns, and strict delivery slots maintained flow without impacting local roads.

Assurance & quality: Full ITP suite, SAT/FAT, weld trackers and NCR/derogation process; GPS surveys for line/level; digital design reviews and real-time QA.

Innovation in Action

Pod-Trak delivered a highly efficient and coordinated track renewal by deploying a panelised track methodology with McCulloch’s and PEM/LEM systems, enabling full panel removal and reinstatement while reducing both welds and time spent on track. Accuracy was further enhanced through 3D machine control for dozing and excavation, ensuring precise formation levels and seamless greenfield tie-ins. Temporary works platforms were introduced to allow S&C units to be handled via road delivery, removing ALO and crane-related risks and improving overall safety. An integrated OTP fleet — including DX270 heavy-lift machines, DX140/PC128 rail bugs, dozers, MEWPs, and trailers — was expertly coordinated across OLE, P-Way, and civils teams, demonstrating a disciplined, technology-led approach that maximised productivity and operational control.
