Role purpose
The ESG/HSQE Coordinator will support the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of the organisation’s Environmental, Social and Governance strategy.
The role will coordinate ESG activities across construction and rail projects, helping the organisation to meet client requirements, contractual commitments, legal obligations and corporate sustainability objectives.
The ESG Coordinator will be responsible for collecting and validating ESG data, supporting carbon and social value reporting, coordinating community and environmental initiatives, maintaining supporting evidence and assisting operational teams to embed ESG considerations into project planning and delivery.
The role will work closely with project teams, procurement, commercial, HR, business development, supply chain partners and clients to ensure that ESG commitments are practical, measurable, evidenced and delivered
Key responsibilities
- Support the Group HSQE and Sustainability Director with the implementation of the company’s ESG/HSQE strategy, policies, objectives and annual action plans
- Assist with the collection, checking and reporting of environmental and carbon data
- Coordinate the development and delivery of the company’s social value programme
- Support the implementation and review of governance and responsible-business policies
- Work with project managers to identify applicable ESG requirements at project mobilisation
- Support bid and business-development teams with responses to ESG, sustainability, carbon and social value questions
- Establish and maintain effective systems for collecting ESG information from projects, departments and supply chain partners
- Promote ESG awareness throughout the organisation
- Represent the organisation professionally at client, industry and community events where required.
- Collate HSQE data to enable reduction in accidents and incidents.
Qualifications and experience
- Relevant qualification or demonstrable experience in sustainability, ESG, environmental management, social value, corporate responsibility, construction or a related discipline
- Experience working in construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, rail or another project-based industry
- Understanding of the environmental and social impacts associated with construction activities
- Experience collecting, analysing and reporting performance data
- Ability to prepare clear reports, case studies and presentations
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple actions and reporting deadlines
- Strong MS Office, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with both site-based and office-based teams
- Willingness to travel to project sites, depots and offices across the UK
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Degree, diploma or professional qualification in sustainability, environmental management, social value, business, construction or a related subject
- Membership of IEMA, the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, Social Value UK or another relevant professional body
- Knowledge of UK rail-sector clients, standards and supply chain arrangements
- Construction or rail site experience.
