Works are fully under way on our GSM-R Fibre project with new client Alan Dick Communications in the Heathrow Express Tunnels; we currently have 3no EVO RR14 RRV MEWPs operating on short engineering shifts, installing hangers on the tunnel crown to accept a radiating (leaky feeder) cable. This will upgrade the existing train communications systems in the tunnel in conjunction with a future ETCS (European Train Control System) project and in anticipation of high-speed Crossrail services running through the infrastructure in 2018.
With the limited time available on track, this requires a huge amount of coordination and logistics and interaction with several stakeholders and other contractors, all vying for track access. Our experienced and dedicated team are already reaching the installation rate planned at tender stage and will continue to improve as the project proceeds, through efficiencies and a learning curve which can only be achieved with consistent teams of operators and operatives. All on-track activities are managed and monitored by our in-house POS Department in line with Network Rail standards, with safety critical support being offered by Deploy UK Rail.
